‘Law of Numbers’ is the pop-electro brainchild of dynamic duo, Dan Karni and Jem Carp – and the EP, ‘Shadows’, was their first release.

On top of playing some additional synth and guitar parts across the EP, I also landed the gig of incorporating Richie Lipp’s evocative photography into the artwork, mirroring the moody theme, right down to the shadowy treatment of the EP title.

Indeed, a great level of focus was brought to the task of creating a sophisticated design language and colour palette that worked tightly across the multi-page booklet.

This project also contains one of the trickiest design details that I’ve ever conjured.

Specifically, the disc label features a closeup portrait of lead singer, Emily. The problem being that I wanted her to appear to wink suggestively at the listener when they lifted the CD out of the jewel case.

As we didn’t have a shot of her winking I had to fake it with stock photography, blending the closed eyelid back into the original shot.

I also designed the Law of Numbers logo which literally interprets their name by invoking that most famous string of numbers known as the Fibonacci sequence.

The EP’s single, Superstar, subsequently featured in Jerry Bruckheimer’s CBS TV drama Miami Medical.
